nostalgic pictures from the last decade of steam operations by British
Railways, as seen through the lens of accomplished photographer and
ex-fireman, Ken Horan, having worked from both Darnell and Millhouses
loc sheds.
Friday October 13 "The Peak Line in the days of Steam and Diesel " The Midland Railway's main line from St. Pancras to Manchester included the rugged scenic section through the Derbyshire Peak District, which was abandoned north of Matlock in 1968. Brian Staniland gives an illustrated account of the trains which travelled this picturesque route. Friday November 12 "St. Pancras to Leicester, Today and Yesterday " A collection of slides showing the changing variety of motive power, stations, signal boxes and general infrastructure to be seen on our Midland route from London over the years, is presented by Bob Goodman, President of the Lincoln Railway Society. Friday December 8 "Main Line Steam, 2006, on Video" Karl Jauncey and Dave Richards, of PSOV, present their annual seasonal evenings entertainment, featuring the very best of this year's spectacular steam action on Britain's main lines. 2007 Friday January 12 "20 Years of Main Line Steam in Britain " Leading photographer, Malcolm Ranieri presents an evening of images, enhanced by the eye of Medium Format Photography, of steam haulage around the Country, taken since the infamous, but thankfully temporary, steam ban of 1968. Friday February 9 "The Cromford and High Peak Railway, Past & Present " As this year sees the 40th anniversary of its closure, it is time to remember this iconic line, featuring rope worked inclines, tight curves, engines working to the limit up the 1 in 14 Hopton Incline, and superb scenery. Andy Pollock, the present Middleton Top Ranger, illustrates the route. Friday March 9 "Woodhead - the Lost Railway " Following the 25th anniversary of its closure, Stephen Gay describes the route of this once busy GCR trans-Pennine main line, having only changed to electric traction through a brand new tunnel in the 1950's.
