Double Track Project

To give the real feel of a main line railway, a section of the former double track (lifted in 1978 by British Railways) has been reinstated between Loughborough and Rothley.

This has involved the installation of loops and sidings at Swithland (the site of former exchange sidings for the Mountsorrel quarry branch), a fundamental change in the layout of tracks and signaling at Loughborough as well as the laying of the 5 miles of track.

The first phase of the double track is now open and work continues at Swithland. Over £1,000,000 has been invested so far in this project and it is estimated that a further £140,000 is required to complete works at Swithland.

This will involve the comissioning of a signal box, installation of more trackwork, points and signals.

Your help would be appreciated to help meet this shortfall.

The completion of the reinstatement and signaling of the double track between Loughborough and Rothley is supported through our 'Double track fund'
